Demóstenes Cristino was the greatest poet of a land of poets: Ipameri, Goiás State (Brazil). He was born in Caratinga (State of Minas Gerais), gratuated in dentistry in Juiz de Fora (State of Minas Gerais), but was in Ipameri, where he moved with his family in 1926, that Cristiano has become to be the inspired poet who charmed all who read his works. The great poet died in 1962, in the city that he loved: Ipameri.

          Demóstenes Cristino was one of the initiators of modernism in the State of Goiás and was known as a man of great culture. Despite living as a widower for 36 years, he was humorous and lived in company of his daughter Lourdes, who he adored and that would be the mother of the renowned poetess Yêda Schmaltz.
