Visiting Verona

Verona, in Italy, stayed famous around the world graces to the known romance written by William Shakespeare, that count the tragic love history of two youths that there lived about 1,500, Romeu and Julieta (whose existences still were not verified). But the localities possessed touristic attractives to spare for deserve a visit, it's a beautiful city and its tranquil streets invite to a good walk.

For who, as I, arrive to Verona by car, there is a broad parking in front of the church of Santa Anastácia, to the margins of Rio Adige, following the margin on foot in direction to the north soon we have an encounter with the Pietra Bridge, the oldest monument of Verona, built in the year 89 before of Christ and that served of access to the theater (at present called of Arena of Verona).

Following for the same street (Pietra Bridge Road) soon we will see the Cathedral of Santa Maria Matricolare, known as the Duomo of Verona, the bigger Gothic church of Italy. The cathedral was built in 1,117 in the place of two churches that were destroyed in an earthquake and his interior is in the roman style, due to the reform performed in the century XV.

Continuing in the same direction, soon we will meet the Garibaldi Bridge, near to this bridge is the pretty church of San Jorge, traveling through the bridge and following for the margin of Rio Adige we have an encounter with the Scaligero (Scala Bridge), that gives access to the Castelvecchio (old castle), in the other margin of the river.

The Castelvecchio, or Castel Vecchio, was built in the century XIV in a sandbank of Rio Adige for be the dwelling of the powerful family Scala, that governed Verona and a huge area to his around. At present the castle shelters a museum that is mandatory visit whose goes to Verona. Castelvecchio was built in an extremely strategic localities for the defense of the city, in its south entrance, well beside the Roman highway, that today is under the Castelvecchio Road.

Beside Castelvecchio is the Arch of Gavi, a monument of white marble, dedicated do the Gavia family, where you can see the paving of the old roman road. In front of the Arch of Gavi born the Rome Road, following it we will found the most impressive monument of Verona, the Roman Theater, at present called of Arena of Verona.

The huge Arena, with capacity for thirty thousand persons, was built with limestone in the year 30 before of Christ (before of the Coliseu) in an area that stayed outside of the walls of the city, his external ring was almost entirely destroyed in the earthquake of 1,117 and its reconstruction occurred in the renaissance. The only part still existing of the old external ring is called "Wing", through the which we can perceived that the arena was still more magnificent than after reconstructed.

Taking the Mazzini Road we arrive to the Plaza Erbe (also called of Piazza delle Erbe or Plaza of the Herbs), the busy and oldest plaza of Verona, localities of the Roman Forum and where, in the medium age, was installed a market of herbs or seasonings (existing until today), then his name. The Plaza Erbe has an oval format and his architecture originates in diverse epochs and there are found set of ten of little shacks where can be bought souvenirs of the city and typical products of the region, a very pleasant place.

For finalize ours short walk by Verona we will visit the home of Julieta Capuleto, that stayed in the Road Cappello, to half block of the Plaza Erbe. His house is identified by a plate of white marble, that affirms that in that house lived the beautiful Julieta of the romance of Shakespeare. We enter across a passage of stone where thousands of passionate youths leave little notes in the walls and we arrive to the patio, where is the bronze statue of Julieta and of where we can see the creeper and the porch utilized by Romeo for achieve the room of its loved. Many they say that this does not pass of tourist exploitation, but passionate of all world continue to visit the place.
